Biography
& Racing Accomplishments
I'm Jason Shively a professional race car
driver competing in CRA Super Late and
Main Event Outlaw Late model traveling
series, I have 7 full years and a
few partial years experience as a driver and
crew chief racing throughout the
Midwest racing circuit. I started
driving like most young driver in the
lower division and have steadily moved up
in class to my current level of
competition. I also have a years experience
working on a professional pit crew with
the former IRL & USAC Midget team of Treadway-Hubbard Racing. I'm very
focused in my racing, I want to win every
race but just as important is to learn and
keep my race car under me and in
contention to win. The knowledge I gain
from every lap I complete is incredibly
valuable in my continued success and
learning experience.

I
started driving in 1999 at the local level where
I drove on a part time basis, when a substitute
driver was needed on the Shively Motorsports
team. After a year I showed the team
I could drive, so in 2000 I earned a full time
ride but the team owner wanted me to gain
additional experience so he arranged for me to
become a volunteer member of an IRL pit
crew. I absolutely loved
this experience and came away from it with my
eyes open and hope high, I believe this
experience showed
me what real professional racing was all about.
I
returned to racing in 2001 and by 2003 I had
accomplished just about everything you can at
the local race tracks. I had broken track
records several time, was consistently the fast
qualifier and won most races I competed in 2003
at the local late model division. So in
late in 2003 we started putting together a
Superlate Model car for the 2004 season.
In 2004 I got
to move up to a limited traveling series ride,
which gave me competition and a lot of it.
In my first experience with big slick tires and
a big motor I almost knock down
turn 1 wall but I saved it at the last
minute. I remember my team telling me later
that the car builder said "Well maybe he can
drive". At the end of my first year I had
only qualified for 2 races and I only finished
one of them, that's when I realized I needed to
finish races if I wanted to continue to
drive. |
In 2005 I qualified for 9 events and my best
finish was 8th we won't talk about the others as
I was still learning and we had other
issues. Overall I learned a lot but
it wasn't a bragging year for a rookie in the
series. My one highlight for the year happened
on my last race of the season, I got to go to the Nashville
All American race, well I didn't qualify but I
did make the last chance race. I kind of
let it all hang out as this was the last race of
the year so with 2 laps to go I passed 2
other competitors coming out of turn 2 on the
outside to end up 2nd for the
race. The top 3 made the All American
race, I started 35th and ended up 18th a couple
laps down but I finished. I guess the move
I put on the cars in the last chance race got
the attention of the series officials, in a good
way. The series came to us and wanted to
make sure we were coming back next year as they
really liked how I was developing as a clean
driver and they told us it was unheard of that a
rookie made the race the first time at the
Nashville track. This race draws from the best Super Late drivers
from across the country and about
50% of them don't make the race and go
home. I've made the starting line up every
year but now I qualify for the event and have
only ran the last chance race my first year.

In
2006 and 2007 I continued to learn and get
better finishing overall in the top 10 each year
and actually winning the CRA Super Series
Sportsman of the Year award in 2007. My
goal for 2008 was to be a top 5 car but due to
funding and sponsorship issue we were not able
to go to all the races, I did finish 9th
overall. My stats for the year were 6 top
10 finishing (2nd at Anderson and 3rd at
Winchester), 5 top 10 qualifying effort (Fast
time at Anderson) and no DNF for the year.
I did have one local win in the Outlaw car but
later wrecked the car badly so we didn't get to
run other Outlaw races in 2008. In
addition I actually got to be my own crew chief
and I believe this really showed me that I could
make the critical calls and that I did
understand what the car was doing and what I had
to do to make it better.
For
2009 we have our sponsorship all lined up and
we're ready to start winning races that have alluded
me in CRA so far. I will continue to crew
chief my ride and with this experience be able
to help customers at our business make the right
choices on parts and setups. This should be a good year
for us as we're better
prepared this year than we ever have been. |
Away
from the tack I'm the VP-General Manager of Shively High
Performance where I'm very focused on racing and in
our racing parts business, I want to win every race
but just as important is to learn and pass this
knowledge on as I must stay customer focused.
I
hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration from Indiana Institute of Technology
where I graduated Cum Laude, National
Honor Society and I'm listed in Biltmore's Who's Who for
Education and Professionalism. In addition I
have earned Associate of
Science degrees in
Human Resource
Management, Quality
Management and Operations
Management.
My goal
is to be successful in both my professional racing and
in our racing parts business; to use my education and
learning experiences both on and off the race track and to make both of these objectives come true simultaneously.
I plan on continuing racing, sell, inventing and
modifying racing parts at my family owned High Performance parts
business at all levels of racing including circle
track, road racing, street high performance and drag
racing.
